THE EARLY DAYS
Bret Hart's wrestling days started when he was a child, his father is Stu Hart, the legendary professional wrestler. Bret went on to wrestle in high school (Ernest Manning High School in Calgary). At the age of 13 he wanted to become a professional wrestler.
In 1985 Bret achieved national exposure in the United States, when he joined the WWF, as a hardworking scientific wrestler, but he was relegated to low card status (it was the early days of Hulkamania). Manager Jimmy Hart saw Bret's potential, and decided to team him with Jim Neidhart, forming the rule breaking Hart Foundation. Many consider this to be one of the best tag teams ever, because of the successful mix of scientific skill and speed, with stunning power and brutality.
The Hart Foundation won the WWF tag team titles, in 1987, from the British Bulldogs, with a little help from the referee Danny Davis, who Jimmy Hart had paid off. Bret and Neidhart continued their feud with the Bulldogs for a short while, before they continued their destruction of every team in their way.
Actually the Hart Foundation lost their title to the Rougeau Brothers, September 26, 1987, but the title was given back the next day, since Raymond hit Bret with Jimmy Hart's megaphone and covered him for the win when he was not the legal man. The Hart Foundation were champs for nine months, until they ran into Strike Force, who defeated the Hart Foundation for the titles.
At WrestleMania IV, Bret and Neidhart were in a 20 man battle royal. Bret and Bad News Brown were the last two men in the ring, together they had eliminated the competition, Brown double crossed Bret, and eliminated him. This incident started the Hart Foundation's face turn, Bret feuded for a short while with Bad News Brown in some singles action, where he showed some of the stuff, which is his trademarks today.
When the Hart Foundation dropped Jimmy Hart as their manager, because he sold their title shot to the Fabulous Rougeaus Brothers, Jimmy Hart swore revenge, and he got it through Demolition, who defeated the Hart Foundation at Summer Slam 1988. But Jimmy Hart wanted more, and since he still had the contracts on the Hart Foundation, which meant, that he got a part of their money, which he gladly gave to his new team, the Fabulous Rougeaus Brothers, this started a feud between the two teams, with the Hart Foundation victorious.
Between 1988 and 1990 the Hart Foundation wrestled every tag team, that the WWF put in front of them including Power & Glory (Hercules & Paul Roma) and the team of Greg Valentine and the Honky Tonk Man, with whom they feuded after Honky Tonk Man smashed his guitar to bits on the head of Bret Hart.
Until 1990 the Hart Foundation was a major player in the tag team scene, but they didn't receive many title shots, but they managed to defeat Demolition for the title, at Summer Slam 1990, in a 2 out of 3 falls. Bret and Neidhart held on to them for seven months, before dropping them to the Nasty Boys, who were under the guidance of Jimmy Hart. During their seven month regain, they also battled the Rockers, who won the titles, but since the top rope broke during the match, the title change wasn't acknowledged by the WWF.

A NEW SINGLES CAREER BEGAN!!!
After the title loss to the Nasty Boys, Bret wanted to pursue his singles career, so the Hart Foundation split up. Bret Hart soon showed that he is also a great singles wrestler by winning the King of the Ring tournament on September 7th, 1991, in the final he defeated Irwin R. Schyster. The victory earned Bret a shot at the WWF Intercontinental title against Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig at Summer Slam 1991. In a great match, Hart won the IC title for the first time via the sharpshooter.
During his first IC title regain, Bret Hart defeated many tough competitors, like Ted Dibiase. The Mountie was the next challenge, and Hart had the upper edge on him, and it was only misfortune that cost Bret the title two days before the Royal Rumble, Bret was ill. The Mountie and Bret was scheduled to meet at the Royal Rumble, but since Bret was ill, he awarded the shot to Roddy Piper, who won the title.
At WrestleMania VIII, Roddy Piper offered Bret a chance to win the IC title back, Bret gladly accepted, and in an evenly match Bret retained the IC title. During his second IC title regain, Bret also faced numerous challenges, especially from Shawn Michaels, but Bret fended him off.
Summer Slam 1992, Wembley Stadium, Bret Hart was going up against his brother-in-law, the British Bulldog, the booking seemed to tear the family apart. In one of the best matches ever, the Bulldog came out victorious, and in the end Bret, Bulldog, and Diana all celebrated in the ring.
With the loss at Summer Slam, the former 2 time Intercontinental Champion set himself a new goal - the WWF World Heavyweight Title. Bret Hart completed his quest for the title, by defeating the legendary Ric Flair. Bret Hart showed the world, that he was a fighting champions, by taking on all comers, including Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series, Razor Ramon at the Royal Rumble, Ted Dibiase and Kamala.
At WrestleMania IX waited none other than Yokozuna, Bret wasn't afraid of 500 pound mammoth and in the match Bret had Yoko in the sharpshooter, when Mr. Fuji threw salt in his eyes, which resulted in Hart getting pinned. Hulk Hogan ran to the ring to protest, but it didn't help instead Hogan was challenged by Yokozuna, which he defeated in seconds, which in my point of view made Bret Hart look bad.
With Hulk Hogan as champion most people expected him to give Bret Hart a title shot, since Bret was cheated from his title, but it never happened. At the King of the Ring 1993 it was Hogan versus Yokozuna (Yokozuna won, and Hogan went to WCW), and with Bret in the tournament. In the first round of the tournament Bret was going up against Razor Ramon, the two rivals tore into each other, like hungry lions, and in the end the Hitman came out on top.
In the semi finals waited none other, than the old nemesis, Mr. Perfect, who know was a face. Bret and Mr. Perfect delivered the best match of the night, with the Hitman as the winner. Bam Bam Bigelow and Bret met in the final, Bret had damaged his knee and some of his fingers in the two first rounds, which Bam Bam used to his advantage, but Bret was the smartest of the two, he won the final, and was declared the King of the Ring.

JERRY THE KING LAWLER FEUD + MORE
A victory at the King of the Ring normally turns you into the no. 1 contender for the World title, but that didn't happen for Bret, because Jerry Lawler attacked him at the coronation ceremony, which turned into a feud between the two, and lead Bret out of the title picture. Jerry Lawler used every trick in the book to get Bret and his family mad, and he succeeded.
At Summer Slam 1993, Jerry Lawler came to the ring with crutches, saying that he was injured, instead Doink would fight for him. Bret had Doink in the sharpshooter, when suddenly Lawler attacked with his crutches, president Jack Tunney ordered Lawler and Bret to fight. Lawler won the match by DQ, because Bret wouldn't release the sharpshooter.
Bret and Jerry Lawler continued their feud after WrestleMania, when Lawler teamed up with Hakushi to take care of the Hitman. Bret beat Hakushi at the first ever In Your House, but crashed to Lawler the same evening, this resulted in a Kiss My Foot match at King of the Ring 1995, which Bret won, so Lawler had to kiss Bret's and his own foot. Lawler brought Isaac Yankem to do the job, but together they couldn't handle the Hitman, who came out victorious at Summer Slam. Bret Hart also feuded briefly with the pirate Jean Pierre Lafitte, before he got another shot at the title.
Survivor Series 1995, Bret versus Diesel for the third time, this time people wanted to see one of them getting pinned, and they did, Bret fooled the big man by pretending he was out cold, so when Diesel went for the Jackknife, Bret cradled him, and became World champion for the third time. Bret and the Bulldog clashed at the December In Your House, in yet another classic match, this time with the Hitman on top.
The Undertaker is one of the few wrestlers, who has been in the top of the business for many years, and still haven't received many title shots, but at the Royal Rumble 1996 he got the shot. The Undertaker was on his way to victory, when Diesel interfered, cause Bret Hart to be disqualified. So this meant, that Bret would have to meet Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XII in a sixty minute Iron Man Match.
If you haven't seen the Iron Man Match yet, go get the tape immediately. The match went back and forth, with each man showing that they are some of the best in the business. In the final seconds of the ordinary match Bret had Shawn in the sharpshooter, when the time ran out, Gorilla Monsoon decided, that the match should continue, with sudden death rules. Shawn won the match, but in my opinion both wrestlers had pride in this match. I personally think, that the sudden death rules should not have applied, since they were not in the original contract.

THE FAMILY FUED!!!
At the Survivor Series 1993, where a united Hart family (Bret, Owen, Bruce and Keith) fought Shawn Michaels (was scheduled to be Jerry Lawler) and his knights. During the match Owen was whipped into Bret, who stood on the apron, causing Bret to hit the railing and Owen to get eliminated. The Hart family won the match, but Owen wasn't satisfied with the result, he blamed Bret for his elimination. Owen then developed an obsession, he wanted to be regarded as his brother Bret's equal, Owen would not be in the shadow of the Hitman. Owen was furious at Bret, so he wanted a match against him, so he could step out of Bret's shadow, but Bret wouldn't give it to him.
Owen and Bret talked the things through at the end of 1993, and they agreed to form a tag team. Owen and Bret got a shot at the tag team champions, the Quebecers, at the Royal Rumble 1994. The brothers lost the match, when the referee ended the match, because of Bret's injured knee. Owen totally lost it, he kicked Bret on his knee after the match, and blamed Bret for the loss. Owen also said, that it was Bret, who told him to wrestle under hood and cap (during Owen's Blue Blazer days), so Owen wouldn't take the limelight from Bret.
Bret was also scheduled to compete in the Royal Rumble, and despite his injury he entered the competition. In the end Bret and Lex Luger was the two last men, and in some way or the other, they both hit the floor simultaneously, which gave them both a shot at the World title at WrestleMania X.
At WrestleMania X, Owen and Bret had a classic match, which went back and forth. In the end Owen was victorious, but at the same event, Bret became WWF Heavyweight Champion for the 2. time beating Yokozuna, which made Owen even more jealous, so he wanted a new match against his brother but to do that, he had to win the King of the Ring.
King of the Ring 1994, Bret had to battle Diesel, who together with Shawn Michaels had attacked the Hitman on several occasions, so Bret wanted a man in his corner, who he could trust. Bret choose his old tag team partner Jim Neidhart. The match ended with Neidhart attacking Diesel, causing Bret to be disqualified, after his attack Neidhart deserted Bret and left him to the wolves. Neidhart later the same evening helped Owen to win the King of the Ring, which meant, that Bret and Owen would clash again at Summer Slam.
This time the WWF wouldn't have any interference, so they decided, that the match should be a cage match. Both Owen and Bret had some security, since they both had a family member in the public which they could trust, Neidhart for Owen and Bulldog for Bret. The match went back and forth, both wrestlers slugged it out up the cage, over the top and on the way down, when suddenly Bret slammed Owen's head against the cage. Owen got his ankles caught between the bars, Bret jumped, landing feet-first at ringside. The British Bulldog cheered, when suddenly Neidhart attacked him. Owen and Neidhart dragged Bret back into the cage and started beating on him. Bulldog got to Bret's rescue. This event was reason for some great tag team matches between Bret/Bulldog and Owen/Neidhart.
Owen and Bret also had a Lumberjack match, where Neidhart was one of the lumberjacks, during the match he sneaked up on Bret and knocked him down, Owen then quickly pinned Bret, and thought that he had won the World Title, but a second referee made his way down and the decision was overturned.
At the 1994 Survivor Series, Bret clashed with former World champion, Bob Backlund, in a I quit match, where there had to be thrown in an towel, when one of them couldn't take it anymore. Owen was in Backlunds corner and Bulldog was in Bret's. Near the end of the match, Bulldog was knocked out, and Bret was put in the chicken-wing by Backlund, Owen begged his mother to throw in the towel, which she did, this ended Bret's second World title regain.
Royal Rumble 1995, Bret got another shot at the World title, this time versus Diesel. But the match was literally destroyed by outside interference by Shawn Michaels, Owen Hart, Bob Backlund, Jeff Jarrett and Roadie. The match was declared a draw. Bret got a bit of revenge on Bob Backlund, when he made Backlund submit at WrestleMania XI.

BRET v STEVE AUSTIN
After the loss, Bret decided that he would take a break from wrestling, and so he did, until a certain Stone Cold Steve Austin started to send out a challenge to Bret Hart, all this started some months before Survivor Series 1996. Bret Hart came out victorious, Bret had won the match, but the war isn't over.
When Bret returned he had an interview with Vince McMahon, where Bret stated, that he had got an offer from WCW, but he declined the offer since he felt that the WWF is his home. Bret also said that one of the reasons he returned was because the WWF needed a good role model, not like Shawn Michaels, no love between these two superstars.
At the following In Your House Bret Hart crashed to the World champion Sid, because Shawn Michaels had to stick his face into the match. Bret took out his frustrations on Michaels afterwards. This incident started Bret's whining period, where he claimed that he had been screwed out of the World title and so on.
Michaels regained the World title at the Royal Rumble 1997, and the winner of the battle royal would face him at WrestleMania 13, and Bret Hart would do anything to get his hands on Michaels. When the Hitman hit the ring, his arch enemy Steve Austin stood in the ring, and hell broke loose. Bret Hart eliminated Austin, but the refs. didn't see it, so Austin went back in the ring and eliminated Undertaker, Vader and Bret Hart to become the winner of the 1997 Royal Rumble.
President Monsoon and Bret Hart wasn't happy with the result, so the Final Four match was setup for IYH, the participants Austin, Bret Hart, Undertaker, and Vader. Shawn Michaels forfeited the title just days before IYH, so the winner of the Final Four would be the champion. Austin was eliminated first, by the winner of the Final Four: Bret Hart, who for the fourth time held the WWF World title.
The fourth regain didn't last long though, courtesy of Steve Austin. The following day at Monday Night Raw, Austin caused Bret to loose the title to Sid, when Austin whammed Bret with a chair. So a match for WrestleMania 13 was setup, it was going to be an I quit match. A week before WrestleMania Bret and Sid fought for the title again, this time in a cage match, which Sid won due to the interference from the Undertaker. After the match Vince McMahon tried to interview Bret, who in return threw McMahon to the mat and talked about how everybody screws him, and nobody did anything to stop it.
At WrestleMania 13 Bret came out to a mixed reaction form the public. Bret won the I quit match when Austin passed out, Austin was in the sharpshooter and blood was flowing from his head. The match saw two of the best athletes going all the way. After the match Bret attacked Austin again, which brought out a negative reaction from the fans.

A HEEL TURN AND THE HART FOUNDATION!!!
Bret's full-blown heel turn occurred the following night on Raw is War (03/24/97). Bret delivered a monologue, during which he decried wrestling fans in the United States. Bret claimed that he had tried to live up to the US fans expectations, but it was pointless because their interpretation of the words dignity, poise and class was far different from his. He closed with the following remark: " You US fans don't respect me. Well, the fact is, I don't respect you. You don't deserve it. From now on, the US fans from coast to coast can kiss my ass!" Shawn Michaels then showed up, only to get his ass whipped.
Raw is War (03/31/97) Bret stopped a match between Owen Hart and the British Bulldog. It was a brutal match, where Bulldog was going to use a chair on Owen, when Bret entered the ring. Bret got the two combatants separated, he then told them, that the WWF and the American wrestling fans were doing everything in their power to destroy them all. Bret also told Owen and Bulldog that he needed and loved them, and that he wanted them to join forces with him against Steve Austin, WWF and the American wrestling fans. They accepted, the Hart Foundation was founded. Brian Pillman and Jim Neidhart joined the Hart Foundation some weeks after.
Austin has got a bit of revenge over the Hitman, by defeating Bret at In Your House 14. The following night at Raw is War, Austin injured Bret's knee in a Street fight match, where Austin used a chair on Bret's knee and arm. Bret continued his tirade about the United States during his injury, which took longer time to heal than expected, the rest of the members of the Hart Foundation continued to do Bret's work, by attacking Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. According to several sources Bret and Shawn have had a locker room brawl, with the outcome, that Michaels wasn't part of some of the Raw is War broadcasts.
After nursing his injuries, Bret returned to action at In Your House 16, in his hometown Calgary. Here he and the rest of the Hart Foundation defeated the team of Austin, Shamrock, Goldust and LOD. During his injury Bret have trained Ken Shamrock.
At Summer Slam 1997, Bret and the Undertaker met again, this time with Shawn Michaels as the special referee. Bret wasn't happy with Shawn being the special referee, which resulted in Bret slapping Vince McMahon. During the match Bret showed again, that he is the smartest wrestler, by irritating Shawn, he got Shawn to knock the Undertaker cold, giving Bret his fifth World title.
Since his World title regain, Bret has been challenged of the Patriot and Vader. After a match between Patriot and Vader, Bret covered Patriot with a Canadian flag and offered Vader to splash the Patriot, which Vader refused and attacked Bret. Bret and Patriot wrestled each other at Ground Zero, where Bret with the help of Bulldog came out on top.

SHAWN MICHEALS AND THE SCREW JOB!!!
Bret Hart's next challenge would be from his old nemesis, Shawn Michaels, who attacked the Hart Foundation with his partners, HHH and Rick Rude. Bret and Shawn were scheduled to meet each other at Survivor Series, and people were looking forward to a return match, which they had waited for, but then a bomb fell.
Some time before Survivor Series Bret Hart gave his notice to the WWF, because he wasn't happy with the way Vince controlled the Federation and the angles, Vince had also stated that the WWF couldn't afford the deal with Bret, so he should seek WCW for an offer. Bret decided to go with the WCW after Survivor Series.
Bret lost the match and the title at Survivor Series to Shawn Michaels, with an ending, which surprised the competitors. Shawn had Bret in the Sharpshooter and Bret was fighting his way out, when suddenly the bell ringed and Shawn was declared the new WWF World Champion, this has since been referred to as the infamous double cross. Bret was pissed, because once again he was screwed out of title regain. After the match Bret spat Vince McMahon in the face, destroyed some equipment, and in the locker rooms slugged it out with Vince McMahon, who broke his jaw, Bret injured his hand. Not a smart way to end your career in the WWF. |
WCW AND A NEW START!!
In WCW, the nWo have celebrated, that Bret would join them. Bret made his first appearance at Nitro December 15 in a Hart Foundation jacket, where he announced that he would be the special referee at Starrcade 97 in the match between Eric Bischoff and Larry Zbyzsko, what a waste. As the referee Bret showed that he was not with the nWo, when he put the Sharpshooter on Scott Hall, and later in the main event made sure that Sting won the WCW World Title from Hogan.
As expected Bret Hart and Ric Flair have started to feud about who is the better man, a topic which the two men has discussed a few times during interview sessions. When Jim Neidhart made his WCW debut, Ric Flair ignited the feud further when he used the figure four around the ring post, a move which Bret has used during 1997. When the British Bulldog returns I expect that Ric Flair will reunite the Horsemen, and a violent feud will start with the Hart Foundation. The British Bulldog will also join the WCW and so the legacy of the Hart Foundation will continue in WCW.
Bret got the first bit of revenge on Flair, when Bret defeated Flair with the Sharpshooter at Souled Out, but this feud isn't over yet, I bet Flair has something up his sleeve. The WCW has changed directions, now it looks like Bret and Flair, who have come to the aid of Bret when the nWo have attacked, will team up to go up against the nWo. Bret has also been double crossed by Brian Adams (Crush), who said that he would protect Bret's back, instead it turned out to be another trick from the nWo, when Hennig attacked. As soon as Hogan has feuded with Macho Man, we will see the match we never saw in the WWF, Bret Hart vs Hogan.
In the meantime Bret will feud with Curt Hennig, they have had great matches in the WWF and will have again in the WCW. Hennig have attacked Bret several times and Ric Flair, the teaming of the two can't be far away.
At Uncensored Bret and Hennig had an excellent match, where Hennig took his share of the load. Bret won the match with the Sharpshooter, but was attacked by Rick Rude after the match, nailing Bret with the Rude Awakening. It will be interesting to see if Rick Rude will be the next opponent for Bret.
At Nitro, March 23, Bret Hart came to the rescue of the British Bulldog, who was attacked by Curt Hennig and Rick Rude, who had handcuffed the Bulldog to the top rope. After Bret had floored most of the nWo, he got on the microphone and he stated that he knew what it feels like to be screwed over, and he took a dig at Vince McMahon, when he said "Bret screwed Bret, I don't think so." Bret also vowed to continue his war with the nWo, and it looks like he will reform the Hart Foundation to help him. The exact same thing happened the next week, but this time it was Jim Neidhart, who got the worst of it. The next week Bret came to the rescue of both the Bulldog and Neidhart, when they were tripple-teamed by Hennig, Adams, and Rude. After the rescue Bret stated that he was the sheriff of WCW.

BRET HART & HULK HOGAN!!!
The next week on Nitro, Bret certainly lived up to his billing, when he saved Sting from loosing the title to Kevin Nash, who got a helping hand from Randy Savage, but Bret was able to fend of the thugs.
Bret is getting weird. At Nitro, April 20th, he made sure that Hollywood Hogan won the WCW World Title from Randy Savage, and after the match he decked Roddy Piper. There is no doubt that the heel Bret will get more attention from the fans than the face Bret in WCW, I just don't hope that the WCW will have a Nitro entitled "Why Bret Why?"
Bret and Savage will be locked in a violent feud, because Savage wants revenge on Bret for his actions, Bret also applied the Sharpshooter on Savage on an episode of Nitro. Bret still wants Hogan, so they can find out what's up. It now looks like Bret has joined the forces of the nWo, because at Nitro, May 4th, Bret was standing alongside Brian Adams, and they had a twisted smile on their faces, as the Wolf Pack were fighting Sting, Luger, and the Giant.
At Slamboree Bret and Randy Savage had a fine fight, showing that they still can make the cut. Bret won the match and he also had the time to take a shot at Roddy Piper. The following day at Nitro, Piper wanted to reverse the decision from Slamboree, which he did, Bret wanted to do something about it, but Hogan stopped him, and got Bret convinced to team with Hogan at the Great American Bash to take on Piper and Savage. Later that evening when Hogan brought his side to the ring, Bret was the last to follow and he was not wearing the colours of the nWo.
Bret is clearly the one who brings life to the feud with Piper and Savage. At Nitro, May 25th, Piper and Savage had an argument, when suddenly Bret showed up and tied to convince us that he and Piper had planned it all, and that they would crush Savage, this story split the team of Piper and Savage, and they agreed on taking on each other after the tag match at the Great American Bash.
At Thunder, Bret came out with Bischoff, the Giant, and Vincent. Bret said that he knew where Sting would end up, after the incident on Nitro, May 25th, where Sting was given a Wolf Pack shirt. Bret said that Sting could only trust Bret since they have the same finisher and since black and white are Sting's true colors, so he should join the nWo Hollywood. Bret continues to hang around Hogan, but still he haven't worn a nWo shirt.
The ongoing war with the Wolfpack continues, at Thunder, June 11, Bret tried to get Chris Benoit to join nWo Hollywood, but it didn't have the effect that Bret had hoped for. Bret whacked Booker T with a chair during his match with Benoit to decide the number one contender for the WCW TV Title, but Benoit refused to win in such fashion and Booker T was declared the winner, looks like the recruitment failed. Bret also had time to punk Savage again.
Bret and Hogan worked very well together in their tag match against Roddy Piper and Randy Savage. Bret and Hogan won the match, when Bret made Savage submit to the Sharpshooter. On Nitro, June 22nd, Bret ranted about Chris Benoit, who Bret felt was ungrateful, he then blamed the fans for corrupting Benoit. Later that night Bret battled Benoit in the ring, and it was one of Bret's best matches in WCW, in the end Bret came out on top after using a foreign object.
At Nitro, June 29th, Bret used a chair on Booker T to get his attention, and it worked, Booker challenged Bret to a match at Bash at the Beach, this could easily become Bret's first title in WCW. At Bash at the Beach, Bret and Booker T had an excellent match until Bret used a chair to get himself disqualified. Bret's obsession with chairs continue on Nitro he saved Stevie Ray from loosing, when he bashed Rick Martel with a chair. Bret also defeated Fit Finley.
Bret is the chair man of WCW, with La Parka out some one had to take over, he proved that by attacking Juventud Guerrera and Rey Mysterio Jr. with a chair on Thunder, July 16. Juvi also got a taste of the Sharpshooter and Rey felt the figure four leglock around the ring post, it looks like Bret is serious about hurting other wrestlers, who get in his way.

CHEATING US ALL!!!
The next night at Nitro, Bret confirmed that he was through with Hogan. Bret was banged up during the War Games Match and will now get some time to deal with his injuries, but Bret promised that when he returns he will make Hogan's life a living hell. Piper then came to the ring and told Bret to prove to the fans that he wouldn't let them down again. Bret then asked the crowd to give him another chance. Later that night Bret came to the ring again this time to point out that it was Hogan's reason that Goldberg had won his match against Sting.
At Nitro the next week, Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell called out Bret Hart, who showed up at ringside, but was attacked by the duo, Sting then came to the rescue of Bret. At Nitro, September 28, Hogan challenged both Bret and Sting to a match, which Bret, on his own and Sting's behalf, accepted. During the match Bret really outwrestled Hogan, but then Hogan started working on Bret's "injured" knee, this brought out Sting, who got Hogan to back off. Sting then took Bret's spot in the match, and had Hogan in the Scorpion Deathlock, when Bret hit Sting with a DDT and then put him in the Sharpshooter. Hogan and Hart continued to work over Sting and then embraced, what other can you say than, why WCW why?
At Nitro, October 5, Sting went after Bret, and attacked him in the back. Later Sting and Bret squared off in the main event, they fought all over the place, using tables, trash cans, chairs, and metal poles, Bret worked on Sting's leg alot and it could be an advantage for Halloween Havoc. The end came when Sting put the Scorpion Deathlock on Bret, and then released the hold and walked away with his bad leg. At Thunder Bret issued a challenge to Sting for a match at Halloween Havoc.
Sting accepted the challenge at Nitro, October 12, but the two also were on opposite sides in the main event, as Bret teamed with Hogan to take on Sting and the Warrior, the match wasn't much and ended in chaos as Hogan's henchmen filled the ring. At Nitro, October 19, Bret issued a challenge to Sting, since the only way Bret could get the respect of the fans was to kick Sting's butt. Sting came to the ring and completely dominated Bret until he missed a move, Bret then had the advantage, but Sting got Bret in the Scorpion Deathlock. Bret made it to the ropes, but Sting refused to let go, this brought down referees, which had no effect. Then Stevie Ray and Vincent attacked but Sting held on, until he suddenly creamed his attackers. Bret then made a run for it, but Sting went after him as the show went off the air.
At Halloween Havoc, Bret clashed with Sting, it was a good match filled with Hart's illegal moves, Sting dominated the first part of the match, but Bret secured the win after a few hits with a baseball bat, that Sting had brought to the ring, and the Sharpshooter. After the match a bloody Sting was put on a stretcher.

THE "I QUIT" ANGLE AND MORE!!!
Rumors about Bret being unhappy and misused (which he certainly is) in WCW continues to flourish - the latest being that Bret stormed out of Nitro, March 15, when Kevin Nash (wrestler and head booker) said no to an angle with Bret and Goldberg. At Nitro, March 22, Bret stated in a interview that he wanted to face Hogan, he dissed Ric Flair and stated he could beat Nash any time and that he could beat Goldberg in five minutes. According to rumors this pissed off both Nash and Goldberg.
The next week on Nitro, Bret once again dissed Hogan and Flair, but also Eric Bishoff got a blow, when Bret sang a verse of the Canadian anthem, where after he said "Bischoff, put that up your pipe and smoke it". Bret then followed it up with some remarks of Goldberg. Including one where he stated that Goldberg's challenge to Steve Austin didn't mean anything since he avoided Bret. Goldberg made his way out and Bret urged him to attack him, which he did with the Spear, both men went down and Goldberg was completely knocked out, Bret then pinned him, and as promised it was in less than five minutes. Bret then took of his shirt and revealed a iron plate strapped around his chest, he then took a microphone and said "Bischoff, I Quit". J.J. Dillon then made his way down and started arguing with Hart, who just ignored him and walked away, the same for Bischoff which also tried to confront. This is really a great angle to get Bret back in the main event, but unfortunately he will have to be out for a while due to the groin injury.
Bret's groin surgery went well, and he is expected to be back in the ring in June. Bret made an unexpected appearance at Slamboree on May 9. Bret interfered in a match between Goldberg and Sting, when Goldberg gained the advantage, Bret came to the ring with a chair and nailed Goldberg on the head and then bashed him on his injured knee. Bret then left.
At the Tonight Show, May 14, Kevin Nash challenged Bret to a match, Nash dissed Bret and was willing to put up ,000. Bret then showed up on the Tonight Show, May 18, and stated that he would take on Big Boring.
Due to Owen's death at Over the Edge, May 23, Bret didn't appear on the Tonight Show. Bret has partly blamed us fans for Owen's death, because we always demand more. I tend to agree with Bret to some extent, but we are not the ones to blame when equipment or the security system don't work.
Bret hasn't wrestled since the tragic accident, he has been on various talk shows to talk about Owen and a law suit against the WWF.
Bret appeared at Nitro, July 5, from the Georgia Dome - on behalf on his family he thanked the fans for their love, support, and condolences. Bret also stated that he hadn't decided if he wanted to return to ring or not, but wanted to thank the fans and the wrestlers.
Bret appeared on Nitro, September 6, where he announced that he had a dream on his mind - a match against Hogan. Bret also stated that he couldn't return unless he got the match with Hogan. Later cameras caught Bret and Hogan in Hogan's locker room, when Lex Luger and Sting confronted Hogan, the lights went out and when they came back on Sting was down, accusations then ran rampant in the locker room.
At Fall Brawl, Bret showed up before the main event between Hogan and Sting. Bret immediately started talking trash and pointing fingers at Hogan. During the match Diamond Dallas Page interfered until Bret took care of him. I don't hope that Bret will have to feud with Page again, I personally think that we have seen that match way too often.
The next night at Nitro, Bret and Hogan came to the rescue of Ric Flair, who was under siege of Sting and Lex Luger. Hogan and Bret then challenged the heels to a tag team match. The match was ok, but soon ended with the four superstars in the ring at the same time, this brought Diamond Dallas Page to the ring with a baseball bat, but Hogan took care of him. Bret had Sting in the Sharpshooter at the time, but Luger used the bat to whack Bret in the face. Sting then covered Bret to win the match. Sting, Luger, and DDP then made their way out together, while officials tended to Hart.
Bret was interviewed at Nitro, September 27, the only things he said was that he had lost his respect for Lex Luger and Sting, while he praised Hogan and Flair. Later in the show Bret and Flair took on Sting, Total Package and DDP in a match, which also was scheduled to involve Hulk Hogan, but he was taken to hospital. The Total Package used a baseball bat to choke out Bret, and then proceeded to whack Flair with it for the disqualification. The heels continued their punishment of the faces, until Hogan came to the rescue.
Bret Hart clashed with Chris Benoit at Nitro, October 4, in a match to honour Owen Hart's memory, the match took place at the arena, where Owen Hart fell to his death. It was a truly great match, both technically and physically. The match ended when Bret trapped Benoit in the Sharpshooter. Both men hugged after the match and saluted Owen.
At the following Nitro, Bret Hart arrived together with Chris Benoit, the two were confronted by the Total Package, which lead to a tag team match later in the night. Hart and Benoit took on the Total Package and Rick Steiner, it was basically two battles in one as Bret tangled with Package and Benoit with Steiner. During the match Benoit had the match won, but Sid interfered resulting a disqualification. The Total Package continued his punishment on Bret, until Goldberg arrived.
Bret interrupted a match at Nitro, October 18, since he wasn't scheduled to do an interview, here he stated that with the new booking committee, he wasn't going to get a match with Hogan. Suddenly music blared over the speakers and out came Sting, with a new haircut, he challenged the Excellence of Execution to a match. Later Sting and Bret butted heads in the back, until security separated them. When the two finally got it on in the ring, they delivered a great match, unfortunately the Total Package came to the ring with a baseball bat. Hart fought off the Total Package at first, but when he started going at it with Sting again, the Total Package whacked him with the bat. Sting could then easily slap on the Scorpion Deathlock to secure the victory. Later Sting wanted to help the Total Package, in his match against Goldberg, but Bret went after him and trapped him in the Sharpshooter, until the Total Package saved his friend. After Goldberg had won the match, Bret and Goldberg hugged.
Bret came to the ring at Halloween Havoc limping, due to the attack from the Total Package. But that didn't stop Bret from delivering a lot of punishment to the Total Package. Eventually Bret's leg started to hurt him, so he had to tap out, when the Total Package put him in a single leg crap.
The next night at Nitro, it was announced that Harts ankle had a hairline fracture, and it could get worse if he wrested later that night, Bret stated that he was going to wrestle. Goldberg and Bret Hart then got it on in a strong match, Goldberg tried to make Bret Hart quit by going after his ankle, but the Hitman wouldn't quit. When the referee went down, Hart was thrown out of the ring, Sid and the Outsiders then hit the ring and took out Goldberg. Bret then entered the ring and pinned Goldberg to win the WCW US Title.
At Nitro, Bret told the Outsiders to stay out of his business, he then went to the ring and relinquished the US Title, due to the Outsiders interference. Sid then made his way out and attacked Bret. The Outsiders also made their way out and hovered over a fallen Hitman. Bret later promised that Sid would pay, and he lived up to his words as he nailed Sid with a crutch causing Sid to loose. Bret apparently also knocked Nash out in the back.
Bret interrupted a segment between Sid and the Outsiders. Bret stated that he wanted to deliver the WCW US Title to Goldberg. Meanwhile Goldberg sneaked into the ring, which got Hall and Nash to flee, while Sid was speared. Later Bret took on Saturn in the WCW World Title Tournament, while putting on the Sharpshooter, Shane Douglas attacked, but Bret survived the following pin attempt. Dean Malenko also wanted to help his fellow Revolution member, but Benoit stopped him, Bret meanwhile applied the Sharpshooter again and won the match. Later Bret participated in a Texas Tornado match for the WCW US Title, pitting Scott Hall vs. Bret Hart vs. Sid vs. Goldberg. Bret was cheated off a victory as the special guest referee Kevin Nash nailed him with a baseball bat, so Scott Hall could gain the victory.
At Nitro, November 15, Bret fought Kidman in the WCW World Title Tournament. Kidman of course brought along the Filthy Animals. It was a great match, but when the Outsiders came to the ring, Bret finally didn't have to pay attention to the Animals, so he trapped Kidman in the Sharpshooter to win the match. Later Goldberg attacked the Outsiders, but Sid attacked Goldberg and wanted to nail him with a chair, but Bret Hart stopped him. As the show went off the air, Bret and Goldberg were the only men standing in the ring.
Bret Hart and Sting clashed in the semifinal at WCW Mayhem on November 21. It was a good match, but when the referee went down the Total Package entered the ring and flattened Sting with a baseball bat. Bret then attacked Luger and put him in the Sharpshooter. When the referee got up he disqualified Sting, since Bret was tangling with Luger, but Hart convinced the referee to let the match continue. Sting shortly after caught Bret with the Scorpion Deathlock, but somehow Bret reversed the hold and slapped on the Sharpshooter to secure the victory. Bret clashed with his fellow countryman Chris Benoit in the final, which was full of good technical wrestling, much like their tribute match to Owen at Nitro a while back, but also outside interference. The first to interfere was Dean Malenko, who struck Chris with a Canadian flag. Then followed Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, but Goldberg came down to take care of the Outsiders. After the interference stopped the chain wrestling continued, and as Benoit went for the Crippler Crossface, Bret reversed the move into a Sharpshooter to win the match and the WCW World Title. After the match Bret was celebrated by his family, but Benoit was also man enough to congratulate the new Champion.
The next night at Nitro, Bret came to the ring to give an acceptance speech, he dedicated his World Title win to his father Stu. Bret also stated that he wanted to give Goldberg a shot at the title at Starrcade. The Outsiders then interrupted the segment and wanted a match against Hart and Goldberg, which Bret accepted. From out of nowhere Jeff Jarrett ran to the ring and nailed Bret with a guitar shot. Jarrett took the belt and left. Later in an interview Bret stated that he would take care of Jeff first and then team up with Goldberg to go after the Outsiders, but Goldberg wanted the joy for himself and stated that he would take them on in a handicap match. Bret and Jarrett had a good match, which went back and forth. Bret went for the Sharpshooter, but Jarrett shoved him out of the ring, where Creative Control attacked Hart, but Dustin Runnels made the save, when he clocked with the World Title belt, which got Creative Control to run after him. Bret then got back to the ring where he easily pinned Jarrett. After a Flag Match between Benoit and Malenko, the Revolution wanted to burn both flags, but Bret Hart stopped them, and Chris and Bret then picked them up and waved them.
Bret took on Meng at Nitro, November 29. The Excellence of Execution was on his way to victory, when the Outsiders attacked, Bret was tossed out of the ring while Nash and Hall took care of Meng. Chris Benoit came to the ring and chased the Outsiders to the back, while Bret crawled back in the ring and applied the Sharpshooter for the victory as Meng was knocked out cold. Bret later got some revenge on the Outsiders as he knocked Kevin Nash out with a chair, so that Goldberg could win his match against Nash. The Outsiders then challenged Goldberg/Sid and Benoit/Hart to a three-way cage match. The three-way cage match was totally chaos, Jarrett came to the ring and nailed special referee Roddy Piper with a guitar and then Goldberg, he then gave the Outsiders some handcuffs. Benoit shoved Jarrett out of the ring, while Nash handcuffed Bret Hart to the cage. Meanwhile Chris Benoit climbed to the top of the cage, where he delivered the Swan Dive Headbutt to Scott Hall, Chris then won the match for his team. Jeff Jarrett made his way back into the ring, where Goldberg tossed Jarrett into the cage wall, causing it to break. Hall then delivered the Outsiders Edge to Goldberg. The Outsiders and Jarrett then continued their assault on the faces, while the show went off the air.
Bret clashed with the Total Package at Nitro, December 6. Bret started the match in control, but after being Irish whipped into the guard-rail, the Package was in control. Elizabeth later made it to the ring, but Sting stopped her and the two went to the back, while the Total Package was looking on in disbelief, Bret caught him with a Russian Leg Sweep and slapped on the Sharpshooter for the victory. The Outsiders later ran in to tangle with Sid, but Chris Benoit and Bret Hart came to the rescue. Bret later got to Jeff Jarrett, as Hart nailed Jeff with the WCW World Title, during Jarrett's match against Goldberg.
At Thunder, December 9, Bret Hart and Goldberg teamed up to take on Creative Control for the WCW Tag Team Title. The referee didn't call the match fairly, so Piper replaced him with a punch. Goldberg then speared and Jackhammered one half of Creative Control, while Bret put the other in the Sharpshooter to win the WCW Tag Team Title.
On December 13, at Nitro Bret and Goldberg were more or less arguing, when they were interrupted by the Outsiders, who wanted to take them on for the WCW Tag Team Title. Later Bret was attacked by some one in his dressing room, so Goldberg had to defend the title himself. The Outsiders of course had the advantage, but Bret Hart then charged to the ring, this gave new life to Goldberg, who speared Hall and was ready to follow up with the Jackhammer, unfortunately Bret's bad knee buckled - allowing Nash to pin him and score the victory and win the WCW Tag Team Title to the Outsiders.
At Thunder, the Outsiders was scheduled to take on Goldberg and Bret Hart in a cage match, unfortunately Hall was assaulted in the back, so Kevin had to defend the title himself. During the match Jeff Jarrett came to the ring with his guitars, these objects along with a steel pipe was used to knock out the faces, so Nash and Jarrett then handcuffed Goldberg, Bret, and referee Piper to the cage, as the show went off the air, Goldberg busted out of his handcuffs.
In a grueling match at Starrcade 99, December 19, Bret Hart clashed with Goldberg for the WCW World Title. As expected Bret used his excellent technique to ground Goldberg, but the G-man powered out of most of the holds. It didn't last long before the referee went down, so another came to do the job, but he was also knocked silly, this also happened for the third referee, so Roddy Piper went down to get the job done. Piper entered the ring and in a moment with referenced to Survivor Series, where Vince McMahon screwed Bret, Piper screwed Goldberg by calling for the bell, as Bret trapped Goldberg in the Sharpshooter, who made no intentions to tapping out. Piper then handed a clueless Bret the belt.

NWO AND THE END OF A CAREER!!!
The next night at Nitro, it was revealed that Vince Russo (The Powers that Be) was the man, who scripted the ending at Survivor Series 1997, when Bret was screwed. The decision at Starrcade was to even the score. Later Goldberg and Roddy Piper confronted each other, after Piper revealed that he had sold out to the Powers that Be and apologized to Goldberg. Bret Hart also made his way down and stated that the problem was with the Powers that Be. Bret then stormed down to the office and vacated the WCW World Title. A match for the vacant title was then signed pitting Bret Hart against Goldberg. The G-man dominated most of the match with his raw power, but as the ref got bumped, Bret used a low blow and then applied a figure four leglock. The Outsiders then made their way down with baseball bats, it seemed as they were going to nail Bret, but took out Goldberg instead. Nash then handed Bret a bat and he whacked Goldberg again Roddy Piper tried to make the save but too late as Bret was declared the winner. Piper tried to protect Goldberg from further pain, but Jeff Jarrett took him out with a guitar shot. A couple of can of spray paint then appeared and the nWo symbol was sprayed on Goldberg and Piper. The familiar nWo music then hit the speakers and Nash declared that the band was back together Bret Hart, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Jeff Jarrett the nWo.
The nWo kicked off Thunder, December 23, by stating that they were the elite in WCW, but they were interrupted by Goldberg, who stated that he was going to take out every member of nWo. The nWo later did some dirty work for the Powers that Be, by taking out the Harris Boys with baseball bats and the famous initials were sprayed on their backs. Later the Wall got a taste of the same medicine as the Harris Boys. Bret Hart and Chris Benoit clashed in a good match, but as Benoit applied the Crippler Crossface, Jeff Jarrett ran in and saved his fellow nWoite from loosing the gold with a guitar shot. Goldberg then ran in to get to Bret, but the Hitman escaped by jumping into a car.
The nWo harassed JJ Dillon at Nitro, December 27, Bret told JJ to deliver a message and then pounded on him. The nWo also brought a nWo Monster Truck to the event, they then went on to vandalise Sid's car. The nWo later got on the microphone and bashed Goldberg, Sid, and Benoit - Sid and Benoit then came to the ring in Sid's car, and using baseball bats they took control of the ring. Bret took on Jerry Flynn later in the show, and after Flynn had been knocked out with a baseball bat, Bret locked on the Sharpshooter for the victory. Bret later helped Nash winning the match against Sid and the Wall, as he whacked the Wall with a baseball bat, so Kevin whacked the Wall again and scored the pin. After the match Nash wanted to powerbomb Sid, but Benoit made the save. Scott Steiner then made his way out with a baseball bat and of course he took out the faces. The nWo then celebrated and put Sid inside his car, the car was then taken to the outside, here the nWo continued to trash it and Bret drove over the car with the Monster Truck.
At Monday Nitro, January 3, Sid attacked Bret as the Hitman was entering the arena. Bret later promised to get revenge on Sid. Later in the night the new WCW commissioner Terry Funk was presented, he didn't like the nWo one bit, he stated that at Souled Out, Bret would lose the title if the nWo interfered. Bret did get revenge on Sid, as Hart nailed Sid with a baseball bat, during Sid's match against Jeff Jarrett.
At Thunder, the nWo caught Arn Anderson, who was later used in an exchange for Jeff Jarrett, who was captured by Terry Funk and David Flair. Funk then challenged Bret to a hardcore match later at Thunder. The match was pretty wild, but ended in a double disqualification, when Jarrett and Scott Steiner attacked Funk, David Flair then came to the ring, but Nash stopped him. Kevin then attacked Funk and the battle went behind the scenes, where Nash Jackknifed Funk through the set.
At Nitro, January 10, Terry Funk booked a match, where Bret Hart would face Kevin Nash, and if they took it easy on each other, they would be suspended for a year without pay and Bret would be stripped of his title. Before the match Nash told Bret that he would lay down for him, but Bret didn't want to win like that, so Kevin stated he would take the title from Bret. Jeff Jarrett tried to create tension between the two, when he told Nash to kick Bret out of the nWo, and later told Bret that Nash was jealous. The two nWo members tore into each other, but Funk seemed to have a plan, as Arn Anderson used a lead pipe on Kevin, when he went for a chair. Anderson took over the referee duties and Sid got in the ring, while a cage was lowering down. Sid delivered two powerbombs to Bret and Arn counted the pin. Meanwhile Terry Funk used a flaming branding iron to brand Nash on the stomach.
At Thunder, January 13, it seemed like the nWo had lost a member in Bret Hart, who came to the arena by himself he got on the microphone and stated that he was through with the nWo, who then entered. Nash then stated that Bret's career was over. The nWo later attacked Bret in his locker room and cut his hair. But it proved to be a scam as a "bruised and battered" Bret later "escaped" from the clutches of the nWo and went to the ring and called out the nWo, Terry Funk and Old Age Outlaws also entered, Arn Anderson threw a bucket of water in the face of Bret, which washed of the bruised (makeup). Bret then knocked out Arn, while Nash fought Funk for control of a branding iron.
At Souled Out, January 16, it was announced that Bret Hart was stripped of the WCW World Title by commissioner Terry Funk, due to the fact that he wasn't cleared to wrestle, because of an concussions. Actually the problems steam from a the quarrel with Goldberg from Thunder, December 23, where Bret was hit in the head.
At the new Nitro on April 10, Bret was shown in the crowd. Before the show ended Bret confronted Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff, the men responsible for the new direction of WCW, the two had declared war on the established stars and formed a new alliance called the New Blood.
At Nitro, April 16, Bret made his way down to the ring with a chair, just when Hulk Hogan had cornered Eric Bischoff. As the show went off the air Bret swung the chair.
At Thunder, April 26, Bret stated in an interview that he whacked Hogan with the chair, because Hogan is afraid of the Hitman. Bret also stated that when it was time for Hogan to pass the torch to him, the Hulkster opted to run away to WCW. The Hitman also said that he didn't know if he could return to the ring, but he would make Hogan sorry for being a coward.
At Thunder, May 3, Bret Hart came to the ring with a chair during a battle royal - Bret went straight after Hogan and clocked him with the chair.
At New Blood Rising, August 13, Bret made an expected appearance. After Lance Storm had defeated Mike Awesome, with a lot of help from special referee Jacque Rougeau, Hart entered the ring, went into a stare down with Storm - and then the three embraced.
At Nitro, August 27, Goldberg had dug a grave to Vince Russo. Goldberg then took Russo out to the grave, here Bret Hart showed up and stated that he hated Russo and waned to help, Goldberg then handed Bret a shovel and wanted him to dig the hole a little deeper. However Bret turned on Goldberg and hit him with the shovel and stated that he liked to end careers.
At Nitro, September 4, Bret Hart went after Goldberg again. This time Goldberg was about to win the WCW World Title in the War Games 2000 match, when Bret slammed the cage door in his face, so Kevin Nash could grab the title and win it.
At Thunder, Bret talked trash about Goldberg, who of course made his way to the ring, but here Scott Steiner knocked him out and put him in the Steiner Recliner. Bret then gloated about Goldberg falling right into the trap.
At October 20, Bret Hart was handed his notice by WCW, thereby terminating his contract with the company, due to his injury. Bret Hart will most likely retire, since I can't see him going back to the WWF.
